A while ago I ordered a Free Cookbook called “Light & Easy Recipes” from Merck and the American Heart Association… you had to take a quiz to get the free book, but as I remember it was pretty easy and only took a few minutes.

Anyway, that was in the newsletter last month, and it arrived today. I just checked and the link is still good - just take the ‘Heart Smarts Challenge’ if you want to get a copy for yourself.

About the book; it’s about 90 pages of healthy recipes covering everything from appetizers to desserts… and some healthy info from the American Heart Association spread throughout. All in all, well worth the few minutes it took to get it.

There were about a half-dozen posters to pick from, I chose this one to put in the kids bathroom because my youngest is really vain - even for a teenage girl - and I hope it will make her think twice before she lets the tobacco company advertising convince her that smoking is cool.

Limit Your Kid’s Online Time with ComputerTime (Free Trial Download)

Why I Like This Software:
ComputerTime lets me set how much time in a day, and when during the day, my kids can use the computer.
With our kids addicted to instant messaging, and all the dangers of the Internet, we needed to find a solution that sets time limits on the computer. ComputerTime does just that!

We can set flexible limits for when, and how long, our children can use the computer. Different limits can easily be set for each day of the week. ComputerTime also has a popular feature called “Time Tokens” which gives you the ability to hand out extra computer time to do homework or as a reward for good behavior.

Here’s a user review from PCMag.com - funny thing is that I could have written this myself: Except for the time span (I’ve only had it about three months) it’s exactly how I feel about this software!
“I’ve been using ComputerTime for over a year now and it is AWESOME! Before installing ComputerTime, my kids were on the computer way more than I liked. And when I asked them to take a break for 20 minutes, they would complain and get upset with me. ComputerTime let me set the times during which they can use the computer as well as how long they can use the computer in one sitting. The best part of all is that there is no more complaining and arguing about using the computer! My kids know, up front, how much time they can spend on the computer before it logs them out so they can manage their own use of that time by using it all at once, or saving time for later…talk about learning time management at an early age - bonus! I love it and would highly recommend this software. The installation and setup was the easiest I have seen anywhere!”

With the dangers of unsupervised Internet surfing, instant messaging, and game playing; every parent in the world needs a way to limit their kids computer use… There is a free trial download ~ get it and give it a try. If you love it as much as I think you will, it can be easily purchased right from the trial copy user interface.

You know you want to quit smoking.

But do you know WHY?

For many people who are trying to quit smoking, it helps to have a list of reasons why — a kind of map that you can turn back to when the going gets tough.

What are YOUR reasons to quit?

__ You want to add more years to your life, by decreasing your health risks.
__ You want to stop spending money on cigarettes, and save that extra spending money for yourself.
__ You want to prove to yourself that you can meet this challenge . . . so you can go on to improving your lifestyle in other ways.
__ You want to experience more natural energy, better health, and better quality of life.
__ You want to model healthy living for your children and grandchildren.
__ (insert your own reasons here — and keep the list)

Whatever your reasons are, you should write them down and keep them close. Have them in front of you. Repeat them to yourself again and again. Keep a 3″x5″ card in your pocket or purse with the list. In doing so, you’ll be laying the psychological groundwork to make quitting easy.

I’m talking about a comprehensive hypnosis program for smoking cessation, “The Non-Smoker’s Edge”. And, as I thought about the importance of wanting to quit smoking, I realized that this program perfectly demonstrates those principles.

The Non-Smoker’s Edge uses new techniques in cognitive behavioral therapy and clinical hypnosis to help you truly want to quit smoking . . . with your mind, body, and soul. Using a holistic approach, it helps you keep your goal in mind at all times. And not just your goal, but the reasons for this goal.

Desire is critical to action. Maybe that’s why multi-session hypnosis has a 66% success rate at helping people quit smoking. That’s higher than any other smoking cessation method that there is.

To learn more about hypnosis for smoking cessation in general and The Non-Smoker’s Edge in particular, click here… or download this free report” “10 Steps Toward a Smoke-Free Life” and see for yourself just how easy it can be to become a non-smoker.

The publisher, The Hypnosis Network, guarantees the results for a full year. If you’re not satisfied, you can return the program for a full refund of the purchase price less shipping. And right now they’re offering a great deal for our readers - $50 off the regular price. You can get the whole program (7 CDs) for only $99.

Make your list of reasons. And then make the next move to quit.

Whenever I order samples from WalMart they always arrive really quick. On the 3rd of June I ran an offer for a Free Sample of Crystal Light On The Go Drink Mix in the newsletter… today (June 9th) they landed in my mailbox.

These WalMart offers never really last long, if that link above takes you to some other page, try this link and see what free samples they are offering right now.

As you can see from the photo below, I got three different drink mixes in the box: one for the Country Time Lemonade, Kool-Aid Tropical Punch and Crystal Light Cherry Pomegranate… and a 50-cent coupon good for a pack of any of them. I’ll probably use it for a box of the lemonade.

Early in April, I ran a sample offer for Emergen-C Health & Energy Drink Samples… they arrived today.

Along with the $1 coupon, there are three sample packets ~ one each for Raspberry, Tangerine and Cranberry flavors. I can tell you that the Raspberry tastes great! (haven’t tried the others yet)

Most such drink mixes have an aftertaste that’s less than wonderful, but I didn’t feel that with this one… and I can’t comment on the ‘Health Benefits’, I’m no expert.

But ~ supposedly Emergen-C contains “32 active mineral complexes and key B vitamins” that are supposed to “support healthy metabolic functions” and “improve overall well-being”… among other things. Like most anything else purporting to be good for you, wether or not this will make you healthier depends on many factors, including your attitude towards the product and your mindset while using it.

Anyway - here’s a pic:
(I don’t order everything I find for the newsletter, only what I or my family can use.)

Anyway - it finally arrived a couple days ago, and I am very pleased with the quality and quantity both: there are two CDs filled with games and exercises and a 50+ page glossy booklet. They came in a nice shrink-wrapped box ~ just like something you would buy at OfficeMax or Staples for about thirty bucks… except this was totally free.

Very Cool. This is why I spend so much time freebie hunting.

I saw this last summer when we were visiting friends in the area… if you’re ever in the Seattle area, drop by the north end of the Aurora bridge and bring your camera. (No, I neglected to take mine that day)

It took a while for me to find a photo online - check Troller.com for this and 30-some other unique statues from around the world.

Apparently, the Fremont troll was sculpted by four Seattle area artists — Steve Badanes, Will Martin, Donna Walter and Ross Whitehead — for the Fremont Arts Council. The sculpture is 18-ft. tall - and quite intimidating, when you come upon it suddenly.

When I make it at home I use a ‘French Press’ and make it strong enough to fuel a race car ~ my best friend calls it ‘Turkish Mud’ and adds sugar and milk - she totally ruins it. My hubby won’t drink it either - he still gets his morning fuel from the old auto-drip I got for free a few years ago.

Anyway - whenever I see a free coffee sample offer I jump on it right away. Today, when I got home there was a sample on the table that I ordered last month from Seattle’s Best:

If you get the freebie newsletter, you may remember it from an issue early in April. I just checked, and the sample offer is still good if you’re interested, and there’s three varieties to pick from ~ just follow the link above.

I ordered the “Henry’s Blend” and it came in a 1.75oz foil vacuum pack… should be enough for about six or eight cups. It came with a $1 coupon good towards a 12oz bag, I’ll try it tomorrow (I don’t drink coffee after lunch time, I love coffee, but I need my beauty sleep too) and if it’s good I’ll probably use the coupon.

Okay - time to start dinner, ‘bye!
